OLT or Optical Line Terminal is a device used in fiber optic connection. OLT device is used to provide high-speed Internet services through fiber-to-the-home networks to homes, offices, or businesses. The device mainly converts optical signals into electrical signals through copper or coaxial cables and exchanges data between subscribers. G-PON OLT: It is the most widely used OLT device in Bangladesh. G-PON OLT devices have downstream speeds of up to 2.5 Gbps and upstream speeds of up to 1.25 Gbps.
E-PON OLT: This type of device is used after GPON in fiber to the network. EPON OLT devices have downstream speeds of up to 1 Gbps and upstream speeds of up to 1 Gbps.
XG-PON OLT: This type of OLT device is used in high-speed fiber to the network with a downstream speed of up to 10 Gbps and an upstream speed of up to 2.5 Gbps.
NG-PON2 OLT: NG-PON2 OLT device is used in networks that require a downstream speed of 40 Gbps and an upstream speed of 10 Gbps.
WDM-PON OLT: WDM-PON OLT device is used to transmit high-speed bandwidth over networks using multiple wavelengths.

Moreover, the price of OLT used in high-speed bandwidth, and high port count networks starts from TK 30,000. However, the cost of WDM-PON OLTs with high-speed bandwidth exchange capability over multiple wavelengths in the network is relatively high.
What to look for before buying OLT?
In order to provide a reliable and high-speed internet connection to the customers, the following points must be known before purchasing the OLT device.
1. Compatibility: Before building the network infrastructure, it should be verified whether the OLT device will be compatible with the optical network terminals and other network equipment.
2. Capacity: OLT devices should be purchased taking into account the number of ports, number of users, and capacity to exchange network bandwidth.
3. Performance: Knowing whether the OLT device can provide reliable and consistent performance as well as low latency and high throughput capabilities.
