Data can be transferred by connecting two or more network devices through network switches. At present, the use of network switches is widely seen in Bangladesh. A network switch is part of a local area network that works for receiving data from specific devices and forwarding data to specific devices. Network switches from TP-Link, Cisco, Netgear, Mikrotik, Tenda, D-Link, Trendnet, and other brands are available in Bangladesh.
Why is the network switch used?
Network switch is used to provide equal distribution across the network. And, various organizations use network switches to connect multiple computers, printers, servers, and various devices and transfer data as needed. Network switches operate using different network protocols. Different types of network switch is used in Bangladesh according to the type of work and different network protocols. Some network switches protect data in addition to data transfer.
How many types of network switch available in Bangladesh?
Different types of network switch is available in Bangladesh as per requirement. Different software and hardware-compatible network switche are used today. In particular, currently managed, PoE switch, unmanaged, stackable, and modular network switches are more commonly used. Also, different types of network switch is available based on different technologies.
Managed Network Switch: Managed network switch typically connects multiple Ethernet devices. Local Area Network (LAN) traffic can be configured, monitored, and managed through this switch. Therefore, managed network switch is used relatively more in Bangladesh. Data is protected by additional firewalls through the use of managed network switch. Currently, managed network switch is available with different port numbers depending on the requirement.
Unmanaged Network Switch: Unmanaged network switches are relatively easy to configure. And, unmanaged network switches can be used to connect multiple Ethernet devices. Hence, this switch can also be called a simple plug-and-play network switch. Unmanaged network switches are commonly used to manage industrial networks. Because these switches can take relatively more load.
Power Over Ethernet Switch: Power Over Ethernet switch or PoE switch is capable of sending low-voltage power through data transfer cable. PoE switch is generally suitable for use with wireless access points, IP phones, and IoT devices. Power over Ethernet switches of various IEEE standards is available in Bangladesh. Switches with PoE technology are used with wireless access control and CCTV camera.
Stackable Switch: By connecting multiple fixed switches into a single logical switch, it is called a stackable switch. Data can be transferred at high speed by using stackable switch technology. And, if any of the switches in the stackable switch has an electrical connection problem, it automatically shares power from the other switches in the stackable switch. Using this type of switch, another switch can be easily added to increase the ports as needed.
Modular Network Switch: Modular or chassis-based network switch is made by connecting multiple network switches. Modular switches can be connected in proportion to the space and can be used by connecting more than one modular switch if necessary. Therefore, modular network switch is generally the same as a stackable network switch. However, in the case of modular network switch, the entire set-up resides in a separate enclosure.
Also, 2-layer and 3-layer network switch is available which is used according to the type of work.
What to do before buying a network switch?
- The port number of the network switch should be selected according to the number of devices that will be connected to the network switch
- Network switch technology should be selected based on usage. Unmanaged network switch is particularly suited for corporate offices
- Select the speed of the network switch as needed
- Two types of form factors are available: metal and plastic. Metal form-factor network switch is suitable for long-term use whereas plastic form-factor network switch is cost-effective. So, select the form factor of the network switch as per requirement
What is the price of network switch in Bangladesh?
Currently, network switch price in BD starts from TK 800 to TK 1,000 depending on the type of switch, number of ports, brand, and quality. High-quality 8-port network switch is available between TK 2,000 and TK 6,000. 16-port network switch starts at TK 4,500 to TK 5,000. Also, network switch with a different number of ports is available in Bangladesh as per requirement.
