
Currently, it is mandatory for every child in Bangladesh to register their birth within 45 days of birth. The government has made it legally mandatory. If registration is not possible within the specified time, then the birth registration should be done as soon as possible.
Now you don't have to waste time visiting the Union Parishad or Municipality. In Digital Bangladesh, you can apply for birth registration online from home. This saves time and reduces costs. Applying online costs only 25-50 taka, whereas you have to pay additional costs at the Union Parishad.
How to apply for a new birth registration
- To apply for a new birth registration, first open any browser on your mobile or laptop and visit the link bdris.gov.bd/br/application.
- Then select the address of the birth registration, write the name of the child or person registering in Bangla and English, fill in the date of birth, number of children of the parents, address, and information of the parents.
- Then upload the documents with the applicant's certification, and review the application of your child or the person again. Finally, verify the OTP code received on your mobile number and submit the child's birth registration application.
- If all the details of the application form are correct, print the birth registration copy and submit it to the Union Parishad/Pourashava of your area along with the fee. If the information in the child's birth registration is correct, you will receive a new birth certificate within 7 days.

Steps to apply for birth registration online
Step-1: Visit the birth registration website
To apply for birth registration, first visit the link bdris.gov.bd/br/application. Then open the birth registration application form on the website related to birth and death registration of the Registrar General's Office.
Step-2: Correct address for birth registration
Now you have to select the correct address for your birth registration. Because your or your child's birth certificate will be listed at this address, here, the registrant can select any one of these 3 addresses: his birthplace/permanent address/Bangladeshi embassy abroad.

Step-3: Information of the registrant
In this step, the registration person's identity information has to be filled in. For example:
- First and last part of the registrant's name. In Bengali and English.
- The registrant's exact date of birth.
- How many children of the registrant or the child's parents are there?
- What is the gender of the registrant? All this information has to be filled in.

Step-4: Fill in the address information of the place of birth
In this step, you have to provide the address information of the address you have selected for your birth registration. Since we selected the address of the place of birth at the beginning of this application, we have to provide the address information of the place of birth in this step.
Here, after selecting the country, division, and district step by step, the following options will appear. The red (*) marked cells from the address cells must be filled.

Step-5: Information of the registrant's parents
Now, the parents of the person whose birth is being registered must provide their important information. The same information about the father and mother has to be filled in. Here, the birth registration number of the parents has to be provided. Then the correct date of birth of the parents has to be given, and their names have to be written in Bengali and English. Finally, the nationality of the parents will be selected.

Step-6: Permanent and current address information
In this step, the permanent address and current address information of the registrant have to be provided. In the previous step, we selected the birthplace as the address of registration. If the permanent address matches the address of the birthplace, then click on the box next to the words 'Address of birthplace and permanent address are the same'. If the information does not match, you will have to fill in the permanent address information step by step.

Step-7: Filling in the applicant's information
Most of the time, it is seen that the guardians of a child apply for birth registration on behalf of his/her parents. In this step, the information of that applicant has to be provided. Here, if the parents of the registrant or the registrant himself/herself apply, then the parent/mother/self has to be selected. Only then will the necessary information be filled in.
In addition, if someone else applies, the applicant's relationship with the registrant, the applicant's birth registration number, name, and date of birth have to be filled in.

Step-8: Upload Certificate/Document
Now, you have to upload the appropriate documents and pictures to prove the authenticity of the information in the birth registration application. For example, an EPI vaccination card, a primary school certificate, etc.
To upload the document, click on the +Add button and select the document from the computer file. Then select ‘File type’ and click on the ‘Start’ button to upload it.

Step-9: Re-verify application information
After filling in all the application information, the application form will be shown for review in this step. Here, check if all the information you have given is correct. If any information is wrong, correct it and then apply.

Step-10: Verify OTP and Submit Application
Go to the bottom of the application review page, and you will get the option to verify the OTP. Here, first enter the email address of the applicant. Then enter an active phone number and click on ‘Send OTP’. Enter the 6-digit OTP code that will be sent to your given mobile number in the next box and submit.

Step-11: Print Birth Registration Application Copy
After completing all the steps of the new birth registration application and submitting it, a confirmation page will appear. Here you will see your application number or application ID. Here you can pay the birth registration fee online by clicking on the ‘Pay Fee’ option.
There will also be an option to print the application form below. From there, download or print a PDF copy of your application. This copy should be submitted to the Union Parishad/ City Corporation/ Municipality office.

Rules for applying for birth registration from the Bangladesh Embassy abroad
If you are staying in any other country outside Bangladesh and want to register your or your child's birth in Bangladesh, you can easily register from the Birth and Death Registration website. Many expatriates need a birth certificate even when they are staying outside the country.
