As a result, you no longer have to waste time, and there is no need to stand in line for hours. As a result, arranging travel plans according to your wishes has become comparatively easier than before. But, how to buy train tickets online? If you do not know the process, then it may seem complicated to you. So, let's find out in detail how you can buy train tickets online easily and safely.
Online registration for buying Railway Ticket
There are two types of online systems for buying railway tickets online-
1. Web-based: You can buy train tickets by searching for https://eticket.railway.gov.bd/ from any web browser on your mobile, laptop, or computer.
2. App-based: You can buy railway tickets by downloading the “Rail Seva” app from the Play Store of your personal mobile or by going to https://railapp.railway.gov.bd/.
However, to book train tickets from both channels, you need to register first. You must submit the following information to register-
- Your National Identity Card (NID) number
- A valid email address
- Your mobile phone number
- Other personal details (such as your name and date of birth)
Now, before booking train tickets online from both platforms, learn how to complete the registration.
Web-based registration for booking Train Ticket
To start booking train tickets online through the Bangladesh Railway website, follow these steps-
Then, find the "Register" button on the homepage, which is next to the login button.
- Now fill in the registration form with your personal information, which includes:
- Full Name
- Mobile Number
- NID
- Date of Birth
- Captcha (especially to ensure that you are not a robot)
- After filling in all the information, you will click on the "Verify" button.
Note: If you are below 18 years of age or you have a foreign passport, you can register with your birth certificate or passport by clicking on the "Submit Data" button. However, you cannot use a Bangladeshi passport for this application.
If all your information matches the NID server, you will be taken to the next page. Here, you will have to enter your email, postcode, and full address, and then set a secure password.
After clicking on "Complete Registration", the system will send a One-Time Password (OTP) to your mobile. Simply fill in that code in the verification box, and your registration will be complete.
Finally, you will see the homepage with your profile, and if you agree with all the things given in the disclaimer, press the “I Agree” button. Then you can set the travel address as per your wish and buy the railway ticket.
App-based registration to buy Train Ticket
- Bangladesh Railway provides the “Rail Sheba” app to buy tickets on mobile. So, first install the “Rail Sheba” app from the Google Play Store.
- Then open the “Rail Sheba” app from your mobile.
- You will see “Login” and “Register” buttons at the bottom of the homepage. From there, press the “Register” button.
- If you have registered on the website before, then there is no need to register again on the railway ticket buying app. You can just press the “Login” button and log in with “Mobile Number” and “Password”.
- And, if you have not completed the web-based registration to buy train tickets before, then complete the registration by following the steps for the web-based registration.
- After completing the registration in the app, you can log in to the app to search for trains, book tickets, and manage all your travel routes.
Railway Ticket Buying Method
Open the Bangladesh Railway website or mobile app. If there is no auto login, then log in with your email and password. After logging in, you will see a new page. There will be -
- From: Your starting station
- To: Your destination
- Date of Travel: The day you want to travel
- Class Selection: Your preferred seat type
On the next screen, you will see the list of trains for that day, their departure time, and seat layout.
- Train name
- Seat availability (whether there is a seat or not),
- Train departure time.
- Click on the ‘View Seats’ button according to the train.
If the seat is empty, select the seat of your choice and click on the 'Continue' button.
How to pay for Train Ticket -
- In the next step, you can pay for the ticket price through bKash, Nagad, or a bank.
- And if you pay through Visa, Master Card, or bKash, an e-ticket will be auto-downloaded.
- In addition, you will receive a copy of the ticket in your email.
Download Railway Ticket
Once your ticket purchase is confirmed, you will usually have to download the e-ticket or get the option to download the PDF via email. As a result, you can easily access the train ticket as well as print the ticket while traveling. In addition, you can save the ticket in the mobile app.
Check Train Tickets Online
To make sure that you are buying the right ticket, you can verify all the information of your ticket online.
- First, open the official website or app of Bangladesh Railway
- Then log in to your account.
- Press the “Verify Ticket” button from the homepage.
- You will select one option from the two options of online ticket or counter ticket.
- Then enter the PNR / ticket number
- Select the captcha
- Finally, press the “Verify Ticket” option to verify the ticket.
How do I refund a Train Ticket?
- The account from which the train ticket was purchased has a purchase history. You can see how many tickets you have purchased there.
- By clicking on the ‘Cancel’ button on the right side of the purchase history, you can see how much money you will get back if you return the railway ticket.
- You will not get the train ticket refund money immediately. It will be refunded through the payment gateway within a maximum of 8 days.
- If you do not get the money back, you can send a complaint to support@eticket.railway.gov.bd with a description of your problem. You will receive a reply to the email within 7 days.
Refund Policy:
- If the ticket is returned 48 hours before the start of the train journey-
AC Class: 40 Taka Service Charge
First Class: 30 Taka Service Charge
Other Classes: 25 Taka Service Charge
- If less than 48 hours and more than 24 hours, 25% of the fare will be deducted.
- If less than 24 hours and more than 12 hours, 50% of the fare will be deducted.
- If less than 12 hours and more than 6 hours, 75% of the fare will be deducted.
- If fewer than 6 hours, no refund will be given.
Service charge will be non-refundable for online railway ticket purchases. This is the new refund process of Bangladesh Railway.
And, if you have purchased a ticket from the station, you will have to go to the station and complete the refund process with a copy of the ticket and your original ID.
Generally, according to the conditions, the refund fee (if any) will be deducted, and you will not get the full ticket price back.

Bangladesh Railway Advance Ticket Booking
- If you want to go home early or travel somewhere, then you must book railway tickets in advance.
- Advance train ticket booking can usually be done up to 7 days before the trip, but during special occasions like Eid or other holiday seasons, railway tickets can be booked 10-15 days in advance.
- It is better to book tickets in advance as the number of train seats is limited.
- Even if a train ticket is booked for multiple seats, the booking can be canceled under certain conditions.
- According to Bangladesh Railway rules, you can book tickets for a maximum of 6 people using one PNR number, but the condition is that everyone has to travel to the same destination and on the same train. One person can book these tickets for themselves and their family members.
- Moreover, if you need to book more than 6 people or a single compartment, you must apply to the Bangladesh Railway authorities.

3. Provide the name, age, and identity of the ticket correctly, because if you provide incorrect information, the ticket may be canceled.
4. Select the starting and destination stations of the journey correctly, so that you do not buy tickets at the wrong place.
5. Before booking, check the date and time of the journey well so that you do not buy tickets at the wrong time.
6. The number of trains and seats during holidays is limited, so try to book tickets in advance.
7. There is a possibility that middlemen will charge extra money for not selling the correct ticket to the passengers. Book the ticket directly through the official system of the railway.
8. If you want to cancel the Bangladesh Railway booking ticket, then know the policy before canceling the booking. In some cases, additional fees may be charged for a refund or change.
9. If you buy train tickets online, then save a digital copy or PDF of the ticket. This will allow you to easily verify it over the internet. Although digital tickets are also acceptable, it is safer to keep a printed copy.
